  • Dr. Vijay Kelkar (Ph.D, FNAE), Chairman, Janwani

    Dr. Vijay Kelkar is a PhD from the University of California at Berkeley. Dr. Kelkar joined the Planning Commission in 1973 and thereafter the Commerce Ministry in 1977 as Economic Advisor, and has since then served in various posts including Secretary to the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister between 1985 and 1988. In 1994, he served as Petroleum Secretary and was made Finance Secretary in 1998. He was an executive director in the International Monetary Fund (IMF), overseeing its operations in South Asia during 2000-02. Dr. Kelkar has retired as Chairman, Finance Commission, in the rank of a Union Cabinet Minister. He has held several other key positions in the Government of India, amongst them Advisor to the Minister of Finance; Finance Secretary; Chairman, Tariff Commission and Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. He was elected as the Chairman of the Forum of Federations, Ottawa, Canada (2010-13). In January 2011, the President of India awarded Dr. Vijay L. Kelkar “PADMA VIBHUSHAN”, the second highest Civilian Award for distinguished and exceptional service to the Nation.

  • Mr. Ajit Nimbalkar, (Retd IAS)
    Mr Ajit Nimbalkar

    Mr Nimbalkar did his college studies in St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai and completed his M.A. in Political Science & Public Administration from Bombay University. He joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1967 and was allotted to the Maharashtra Cadre. He served in the IAS for 37 years and held several positions at the District, State and Central levels during different periods. He worked as Collector & District Magistrate at Alibag and Pune and was Director of Sugar, Maharashtra for about five years from 1974-78. He was also Secretary Co-operation Dept, GoM. He worked as Joint Secretary/Secretary with two Chief Ministers, Mr Vasantdada Patil in 1983 and Mr Sharad Pawar in 1990-91. He was Commissioner of Labour, Maharashtra in 1981-83 and then Director General Employment and Training in the Ministry of Labour, Govt. of India from 1985-90. Later in 1998 he worked as Additional Secretary, Ministry of Labour, GoI for two years.

    Mr Nimbalkar worked as Chairman of Maharashtra State Electricity Board also as the first Managing Director of Mahanagar Gas Ltd. a joint venture of GAIL, British Gas and Govt. of Maharashtra for about two and half years. In February 2000, he took over as Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC.

    In January 2002, Mr Nimbalkar went again to GoI as Special Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, dealing with North East affairs, Centre-State relations, Disaster Management etc. In August 2002, he became Secretary, Defence Production in the Ministry of Defence, GoI. The GoM recalled him in October 2002 to head the State administration as Chief Secretary, Maharashtra. He retired from this post on 31st May, 2004. Subsequently, in order to utilise his services for infrastructure development he was appointed as Advisor to the State Government from June, 2004 to March, 2005. In August 2005, he was sworn in as the first Chairman of the newly enacted Maharashtra Water Resources Regulatory Authority, a quasi-judicial post. He completed his term on 16th August 2011 and has now settled down in Pune.

  • Ms. Aruna Bagchee, Former bureaucrat
    Aruna Bagchi

    She has worked as Senior Governance Adviser in the UK government’s Department for International Development (DFID), Secretary in the Ministry of Mines, GoI; as Secretary to GoM, in various sectors, notably in the Departments of Tourism, Culture, and Tribal Development and a Director in the Ministry of Agriculture in GoI.

    She did her master in Political Science and PhD in Sociology from the University of Pune. She also did masters in Public Policy from Harvard University.

    Ms. Bagchi has a special interest in the promotion and preservation of cultural heritage, backed by several years of experience working in government and international agencies in the area of policy formulation and institution building.

  • Mr. Arun Firodia, Chairman, Kinetic Group
    Mr Arun Firodia

    Mr. Arun Firodia got his B.Tech with distinction in Electrical Engineering from IIT, Mumbai. He did his MS in Electrical Engineering from MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) with flying colours. He also did his MS in Management from ‘Sloan School of Management’.

    He inherits the rich tradition of his illustrious father late Shri H K Firodia, the Doyen of Indian Automobile Industry, who developed a variety of fuel efficient vehicles for common people and made them available at affordable prices. Mr. Arun Firodia – has given revolutionary products like Luna – which gave mobility to common man and Kinetic Honda which gave mobility to women.

    Mr. Arun Firodia is Chairman, National Innovation Council – Industry Sector; member of CSIR – High Powered Committee for ‘National Civil Aircraft Development’ Project; Chairman of the Research Council of Central Scientific Instruments Organisation, Chandigarh; President of ‘Pune Citizens’ Police Foundation’ (PCPF), the past President of Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture; Vice Chairman of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Pune Kendra; Advisory Committee Member of Symbiosis Institute of International Business (SIIB) and Chief Patron of SEDT (Socio Economic Development Trust ) an NGO working for education, health care and economic development of rural poor, women and children.

    The President of India honoured Mr. Firodia with Padmashri in 2011. He is the recipient of prestigious awards including Lifetime Achievement Award instituted by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers; MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology – USA), Award for distinguished achievement and exceptional service to Country, Society and MIT; Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mumbai – Distinguished Alumnus Award, TERI – CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) Award; the NCPEDP – Shell Helen Keller Award; FICCI Annual Award.

  • Mr. Pratap Pawar, Chairman of Sakal Papers Pvt. Ltd
    Mr Pratap Pawar

    Mr. Pawar is a Bachelor of Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology & Science, Pilani. He started a S.S.I. Unit in 1968 as a technocrat, which is now known as Ajay Metachem Limited. Currently, he is the Chairman of Sakal Papers Pvt. Ltd., and Chairman of ASK Chemicals India Pvt. Ltd. which is subsidiary of ASK Chemicals GmbH, Munich, Germany. He is also the Director of various companies viz. Bharat Forge Ltd. Finolex Cables Ltd., Kirloskar Oil Engines India Ltd., Force Motors Ltd. Pune.

    He is the former President of The Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries & Agriculture, Pune. He was the President of The Indian Newspaper Society, New Delhi for the year 2001-2002 and President of the Indian Language Newspapers Association in the year 2005-2006.

    He was appointed as the Vice President of the World Association of Newspapers (WAN- IFRA) as the Indian Newspapers Society’s representative of India in June 2007. He was nominated on the Press Council of India by University Grant Commission in October 2004 and nominated on the Senate of the University of Pune by Hon’ble Governer of Maharashtra in April 2000. The GoM nominated him a Member of Governing Council of Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education (MSBTE), Mumbai in Feb 2003.

    He was awarded Padma Shri in 2014 for his distinguished service in trade and industry. He is also a recipient of several awards including Fergusson Gaurav Award, 7th Late S M Garge State Level Award, Jeevan Sadhana Gaurav award by University of Pune to name a few.

    Mr. Pawar is a Trustee on various socio-educational Institutions in Pune including Students Welfare Association; Poona School and Home for Blind, Kirloskar Foundation; Balgram- SOS Children’s village, Yeravada; Pune Balkalyan Sanstha; Dr. Nanasaheb Parulekar Charity Trust, Sakal India Foundation; Sakal Relief Fund; Empress Garden; Pariwar Mangal Society; Nirdhar; Superstition Eradication Committee and BAIF Development Research, Foundation.

  • Mr Ramanath Jha, Director General, All India Institute of Local Self Government
    Mr. Jha

    Ramanath Jha was a member of the Indian Administrative Service till 2008. He served as CEO and Managing Director of the Khed Economic Infrastructure Private Ltd (KEIPL), a joint venture company of Bharat Forge and MIDC till 2014. He is currently the Director General of the All India Institute of Local Self Government (AIILSG), Academic Head & Chief Executive, International Academy of Urban Dynamics (IAUD) and OSD (DP Revision), Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM)..

    Dr. Jha worked as Administrator, Pandharpur Municipal Council; Administrator, Solapur Municipal Corporation; Collector and Dy Director, Municipal Administration, Ahmednagar; Municipal Commissioner, Pune; Metropolitan Commissioner, Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority; Regional Advisor, South Asia, Urban Management Programme, UNDP/UN-HABITAT; Vice Chairman and MD, Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation and Principal Secretary, Transport, Ports and State Excise, Government of Maharashtra. He was awarded the State Chinmulgund Award for administrative excellence in 1989.

    He was the member of the Expert Committee for the preparation of the Model Municipal Law commissioned by GoI, 2002; Member of the Dharmarajan Committee Expert Panel set up for recommending Property Tax Reforms in Delhi; member of the Expert Panel for National Urban Awards instituted by CRISIL and Chairman of the Committee of Government of Maharashtra for framing the Metropolitan Planning Committee Bill. He is currently a member of the Urban Advisory Board of IDFC Ltd.

    He co-authored a book “Towards People Friendly Cities” in 2000 published by UNICEF. His second book published by YASHADA is titled “Urban Essays”. He was the Editor of the ‘City Development Strategy for Hyderabad’ published by UN-HABITAT, co-editor of ‘ Perspectives in Urban Development’ brought out by Symbiosis International University and theme mentor for two modules ‘Urban Governance’ and ‘Municipal Management’ prepared by YASHADA. He has published a number of papers on a variety of urban subjects and lectures widely on urban issues. Born on 5th Jan 1952, Mr. Jha holds a Post Graduate degree in History and PG in Management.

  • Ms. Rati Forbes, Director, Forbes Marshall
    Ms Rati Forbes

    Rati Forbes graduated with Psychology (Honours) and Sociology from Bombay University – and has further done special courses in Human Resources, Organisational Behaviour and Strategic Philanthropy. She went “back to school” and graduated earlier this year from Cambridge University UK, with a Master of Studies in Sustainability Leadership and Management.

    Rati has been a Director at Forbes Marshall since 1992; and has been involved in overseeing the Human Resources function till two years ago. During this time, Forbes Marshall has been thrice selected as one of India’s Top 25 Great Places to Work by the Great Places to Work institute; most recently, bagging 5th rank nationally in 2012.

    Today, Rati focuses full time on the social initiatives the company has developed and grown, over the last several years. Rati also heads the Foundation which Forbes Marshall set up five years ago. She has initiated several programmes for under-privileged women and children from neighbouring communities; the focus areas being health, education and women’s empowerment.

    The social initiatives team at Forbes Marshall is involved with varied programs – some of them being a reading/learning enhancement programme in 100 municipal schools in Pune; catalyzing about 180 self-help groups for women, a gender sensitization program for 8th and 9th standard students which continues to run each year in about 50-60 municipal and low cost private schools.

    Forbes Marshall was also the first company in India to be recognized by the Social audit network of UK and awarded a certification after a rigorous process in 2010.

    Rati chaired CII Western region’s cell for Social development from 2002 to 2006; the main objective being to sensitize corporate to their social responsibility. She continues to be actively involved with CII’s outreach programs for skill development, leading to employability. Rati is also on the board of several foundations – some of them are the advisory board for Akanksha Pune, Centre for Learning Resources, Centre for Advancement of Philanthropy and the Pragati Foundation.

  • Mr. Ravi Pandit, Chairman & Group CEO, KPIT Technologies Ltd
    Mr Ravi Pandit

    Mr. Ravi Pandit is the co-founder, Chairman and Group CEO of KPIT Technologies Ltd. He is the founder trustee of the Pune International Centre; former member of the core group on Automotive Research Program Committee (CAR) a GoI; former member of the Technology Development Board of the Department of Science and Technology, GoI and former president of the esteemed Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA). He is also the member of the board of management of Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan (a charitable Public trust) and Director of the Aga Khan Rural Support Program (India).

    He did his masters from Sloan School of Management, MIT, Cambridge, USA. Mr Pandit is conferred on the Honorary Doctorate of Letters from Tilak Maharashtra University, India. He is a gold medalist and fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and an associate member of the Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India.

    He has several awards to his credit including MAXELL Award for Excellence in Entrepreneurship, Samata Award for contribution to the economic and industrial development of Pune City, Cummins CMD Awards for Corporate Social Responsibility, Mahesh Modi Environment Excellence award, Oracle Excellence Award for Specialized Partner of the Year – North America, ‘Automotive Idea of the Year’ award at The Economic Times Zigwheels Car & Bike Award, Rotary Vocational Excellence award for vision and excellence in the field of profession and business and Maharashtra State IT R&D Innovation Award.

  • Mr. Vishal Jain, CEO, Leverant

    Vishal has an BE in Electrical Engineering from BITS Pilani, an MBA from Yale University. He was based in the US for 15 years during which he worked as a global management consultant for several firms including McKinsey & Company and Bridge Strategy Group. He now runs a KPO company with operations in Pune and Bangalore that does commercial insurance work for the US and UK markets. He has actively been working on urban issues such as city planning, governance, solid waste management and affordable housing for the last 10 years. Mr. Jain was a key member of the Ministry of Urban Development (MoUSD) task force that developed Service Level Benchmarks (SLBs) for key municipal services such as sewerage, sanitation, solid waste and public transport. These SLBs have now been rolled out to cities across India so as to allow more accurate measurement and comparison service delivery across cities.

  • Mr. Satish D. Magar, President, MCCIA
    Mr. Magar

    Mr. Satish Magar is the Managing Director of Magarpatta Group of companies who have diversified interest in Township development, I.T. Parks, Hospitality, Retails & Agriculture.

    ‘Magarpatta City’ as a unique award winning integrated privately managed Township developed on the principals of inclusive growth which made the land owner as shareholders in the company is the brainchild of Mr. Magar. The group is currently developing ‘Nanded City’ a 700 acres project and proposed ‘River View City’ a 500 acres development on the same principals. The group is also venturing with development of an industrial park near Chakan.

    With around 26 years of experience in Building, Construction and Promotion Industry he has been the member of Credai Pune Metro originally PBAP from 1993-2013; he has been the President of Credai Pune Metro from 2009-2013. He has also been the Vice President of Credai- Maharashtra from 2009-2011 and President from 2011-2013. He has worked towards betterment of all the members of these associations in different ways. He has since been promoted as the Vice President at Credai – National for 2013-2015. He is the President at Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture for the year 2014-16.

    Mr Jain is immediate past president of Mahratta Chamber Of Commerce, Industries & Agriculture (MCCIA). He is the chairman and Managing Director of Synergy Emulsifuels (P) Ltd and Director of Colorflo Writing Instruments Pvt. Ltd., & Technology & Equipment International.He is past Chairman of Indo American Chamber of Commerce – Pune Branch, Pune; past Director of State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur (subsidiary of State Bank of India) for 13 years; past President of Employers Association of Rajasthan for 13 Years and past President of Jaipur Chamber of Commerce.

    He was also a committee member of various organizations including FICCI (New Delhi), All India Organization of Employers (New Delhi), Employers Federation of India (Mumbai) and Regional Provident Fund Board, Rajasthan.

    He is an active Rotarian for last 45 years and is a member of Rotary Club of Pune Central. He has received South East Asia ‘Regional Service Award for a Polio-Free World’, in recognition of significant active personal service towards the goal of Polio Eradication. He is also a recipient of ‘Service Above Self Award’ of Rotary International. He was Director, Global Projects (Distt. 3130) in 2006-07.

    Mr. Sardeshmukh
    Dr. Anant Sardeshmukh is the Director General of Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA). He works as the CEO and looks after overall management of the secretariat.He has a Masters degree in Labour Welfare and Industrial Relations, from Bombay Labour Institute and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the USA with special emphasis on Finance and Marketing. He has received Ph.D. from Pune University in Management and in the area of MSME. He has 30+ years experience in Corporate Finance, Project Finance, Non Banking Finance especially in Lease and Hire Purchase, Consumer Finance and Banking. His experience also extends to other areas such as General Management, Taxation, Accounts, Personnel Management and Industrial Relations. He has worked at senior positions for companies such as Bajaj Auto Finance Ltd., 20th Century Kinetic Finance Ltd., Deepak Nitrite Ltd., FDC Ltd. He is a trained Corporate and Management trainer and has been associated with many Institutions like Symbiosis Institute of Management, Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, MIT College of Insurance, and National Insurance Academy.

    He is a Governing Council Member for various industrial bodies like the MSME Facilitation Council, Government of Maharashtra, State Level Committee on Standardization of Quality Systems, GOM, International Chamber of Commerce India, New Delhi. He is a Director on the Board of MKCL, Lean Manufacturing Cluster, MCCIA Electronic Cluster Foundation, White Goods cluster and Pune Restoration & Navigation Company. He is also a Member on the Planning & Monitoring Board of Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Internal Quality Assurance Cell of Gokhale Institute and Member on the Board of Studies in Liberal Arts, Legal & Moral Science & Social Science of IndSearch.
