Pune has sustained a heritage of over two thousand years. The entire region of Pune is studded with beautiful heritage sites such as forts, caves, temples, Institutions of educational, political and social significance, richly diverse flora and fauna. Pune's Heritage - both tangible and intangible depict different eras and periods in national history. The folklore, visual arts, dance, drama, craft, music, literature and other intangible heritage speaks of the diverse social, cultural, religious and political influences that the region has experienced over all these years. It is this heritage that gives Punekars their sense of history and character to the region. It strongly defines the identity of the Punekars.

Janwani is sensitive to the rich and vast heritage of Pune which it strives to conserve and promote. It also seeks to instill pride for one's culture among the present and future inhabitants. Janwani believes that heritage conservation should be an inclusive and participative exercise if it has to be a sustainable proposition. Such an exercise should be collaborative and multi-disciplinary in approach. Janwani will seek to bring together on a common platform stakeholders,individuals and organizations passionate about issues related to Pune's heritage and culture, in doing so it will strive to strengthen their efforts and add to it.
