As development progresses at more or less equal rates all over the globe, there is little doubt that the present pattern of development is greatly urban-centric. Though the merits of ecofriendly lifestyles are known globally, environmental concerns remain in the shadow of development priorities and though people more or less think about environmental concerns, their actions tell a different story. Hence the classic case of environment Vs development exist even today.

However, more and more emphasis is now being laid on adopting lifestyles that will enable us to not only achieve our development dreams but also enable us to contribute towards workable systems that will eventually reduce the burden of the already stressed environment. Among the common urban environmental stresses, availability and quality of land, water and air are most dominant. In Indian cities, water and air quality issues have been under the lens and the severity of each is increasing because of existing complexities and an equal amount of apathy towards it, both from the civilian as well as governing authorities.

Urban environmental development can be managed and development can be made ecofriendly by managing the affairs of any city.
